This was a stippling project/drawing I did many moons ago using the smallest Rapidograph pen available.  Every single mark is a DOT. The image is 13″x15″ and I lost track of how long it took after 200 hours. Ha! insane. Luckily, I listened to my professor and had prints made of it.

Anyhoo, I thought it fit the them of “SCALE” perfectly. I would have to measure Andy’s face to get the scale of the pen to his face, but my guess is about 1:17,882…give or take a few thousand.

  1. Brilliant!! You must be very patient to have completed the piece. I love it!

  2. I remember loving stippling…it was so theraputic! Now that I’m older I think it would drive me bonkers. Just give me wine to chill out! This is a very cool drawing and so painstakingly done 🙂
Thanks for stopping by with congrats. I couldn’t believe I made pick of the week. Wooo-hooo, and almost 100 comments!XXXX Lolo

  3. WOW!!!!!! That’s amazing. VERY inspirational!

  4. carla,,,not sure if i was patient or just diligent. i could not imagine leaving it half done after so much went into it. 🙂

lolo,,,i don’t remember if i loved it ….i think i might have hated it. if only i had listened to my professor….she told me i should make this SMALLER from the get-go! LOL she was definitely right! and i am so happy your hat painting was chosen! it is just beautiful.

  5. oops, hi jim! i was typing at the same time as you, i guess! thanks! 🙂

  6. This is incredible. Oh stippling…I think we all go through a phase like that, mostly when we are in art school.

  7. I’m going insane just thinking about doing that. 😉

  8. Hi Princess T… That Andy pic is AMAZiNG, I mean wow! Glad you finished it, must have felt like some acomplishment

  9. Wow, so even the BLACK shading is totally comprised of individual dots??? That must have taken forever! I did something like that a long time ago, way too big for stippling. I should have listened to my art teacher! Sadly, I never finished mine, just got soooo tired of all those dots! 🙂 Glad that you were able to finish yours. It is gorgeous!

  10. marci,,,yep it was in art school…right where it can stay! LOL

    willie–me too. never again!

princess pepper cloud~~(i mean the one and only “princess PC”) thanks…i think what motivated me was that i thought the idea of it was just too funny. and my high school art teacher really helped us learn how to appreciate many artists, including andy warhol. on the day andy died (dating myself), my art teacher wore a soup label around his arm as a tribute. heheh…

tracy: YEP. all dots. every bit of it.

thanks to each of you for taking time to comment. 🙂

I’m about to go take pics of myself in prom gowns…. it’s very hot here in Australia today, almost 100F so prancing around in synthetic is not a great thing to do today but great fun anyway!

  22. Wow, great piece! The combination of the stippling with the collage effect is fantastic! It’s nice to see the close-up with the coin for “scale.” Amazing work stippling all those soup cans, and the type.
